project_banner_herodotus

Herodotus is a framework for managing historical data in Actionscript 3. A key part of the framework is a suite of parsers for popular temporal data formats. The imported data is converted to the native ASDateTime formats. For more information on ASDateTime see the Latham.

The Objective: Managing historical data in AS3
To import, store and manage historical data.

Deliverable: Temporal parsers
[status: planning] org.computus.io.*
A set of functions to import and parse feeds and files in popular temporal standards. The parsers should import data and convert it to native ASDateTime objects.

Herodotus

The Roman philosopher Cicero was the first to regard Herodotus of Halicarnassus as the "Father of history". The title was bestowed upon him largely for his book "The Histories" which documented the wars between Greece and Persia. Written in around 430BC the work is most notable for Herodotus' methods of research. He pioneered the importance of relying on original sources, and travelled widely whilst writing the book.

"Very few things happen at the right time and the rest do not happen at all. The conscientious historian will correct these defects."
